Test runs on the Kalamaria extension of the Thessaloniki metro begin from Thursday afternoon, January 4th. Nikos Taxiaos emphasized that electrification of the entire line to Kalamaria will be completed by midday, after which a train will be put on the line to begin test operations of the Thessaloniki metro.
Nikos Taxiaos: We will begin some test movements at very low speed in the first phase
“The train will be put on the line so we can begin some test movements at very low speed in the first phase, as was done with the main line. First, the line will be tested along its length, and then the Kalamaria line will need to be integrated with the main line, which requires suspending operation of the main line for a period,” Mr. Taxiaos stated.
“We have coordinated with the deputy minister, Mr. Kyranakis, that during this period we will also address the issue of public transportation to compensate for lost journeys due to the metro suspension,” he added.
