Shocking details are coming to light regarding the tragic incident that occurred on Wednesday afternoon (3/9) in Athens, when a 34-year-old woman lost her life while trying to give birth to her baby.
The incident occurred on Skra Street and the woman was found dead by her husband when he returned home. The infant was also dead, while the 34-year-old’s two minor children were also in the house, ages 3 and 5 years old. The husband notified police and officers who arrived at the scene found that the unfortunate woman had taken her last breath, with the umbilical cord still attached.

The 5-year-old child told authorities that his mother was bleeding and then the baby was born. Then together with his mother, they took the newborn to the bathroom to clean it, while the child confirmed that the father was away from home and came later.
Her husband, originally from Georgia, told authorities that he became worried when he couldn’t locate her, as her mobile phone was turned off. When he returned to their home, he saw his wife and the newborn on the living room floor, unconscious.
With the help of a neighbor, the husband tried to revive his wife by performing CPR, without success.
She had given birth to her other two children at home
As a neighbor of the 34-year-old stated: “She was a worthy person, I had met her at the supermarket. They shouldn’t have left her alone at home while she was pregnant. I feel very sorry. I learned about it from television and her brother also told me. She was due to give birth. Her husband, as far as I know, was working. Her brother told me that she cut the umbilical cord herself.”
At the same time, neighbor testimonies, which have not been confirmed by the mother’s circle, report that the woman allegedly had given birth to her other two children at home as well.
Medical examiner’s preliminary assessment
Relatives of the 34-year-old came to the scene and according to information told police that the family was against doctors. However, they did not know whether the woman had visited a gynecologist during her pregnancy to know what the probable delivery date would be.
According to the preliminary assessment of the medical examiner who rushed to the scene, the death of the 34-year-old appears to be due to medical causes. The results of the forensic examination are awaited to draw safe conclusions about the circumstances of her death.
The scenario of criminal activity is being ruled out. The woman was expecting to give birth in the coming days, however something happened and she gave birth prematurely.
