According to preliminary climate reanalysis meteorological data processed by the meteo.gr / National Observatory of Athens team, summer 2025 ranks as the third hottest in Greece since 1960.
Temperatures exceeded normal seasonal levels across the entire country. June was recorded as the hottest since 1960, while July ranked as the 4th hottest. August remained closer to normal levels. Overall, out of 92 summer days in 2025, 70 showed values above the 1991-2020 average.
Figure 1 shows the average summer temperature (June-August) from 1960 to 2025 across Greece. Summer 2025 was +1.5°C above the 1991-2020 average value, very close to 2021 and just 0.3°C below the second hottest, 2012. The hottest summer remains 2024.

The country’s average temperature for summer increased by 2.4°C from 1960 to 2025.
Figure 2 presents the ranking by region. In Western Greece, the Peloponnese and Eastern Macedonia, 2025 was the 2nd hottest summer, while in mainland areas it was the 4th hottest. In Central Macedonia, Attica region and southern Peloponnese it was the 3rd hottest. Less extreme heat appeared in the Cyclades, some areas of Western Macedonia and Crete.
