The arrest of the right-hand man of crime boss “Edik” in Aspropyrgos resembled a scene straight out of a movie.
Specifically, the operation was set up on Friday afternoon (28/08) when the 36-year-old, accused of participating in Edik’s criminal organization, was driving his car on a road in Aspropyrgos. Three police cars then blocked his path, immobilizing him and preventing any escape attempt.
As shown in the footage, a police car blocks the road in front of the suspect’s vehicle, followed by another car stopping behind him. The third police vehicle closes him off from the side.
All officers then exit their vehicles armed and shout for him to surrender.
The 36-year-old was ultimately arrested by the Anti-Extortion Unit following a warrant issued by the prosecutor for his participation in the criminal organization. According to information, his role in the criminal organization involved beating members of rival gangs.
Who is the mobster arrested in Aspropyrgos
This particular mobster, according to police, is allegedly behind a series of murders, including those of Giannis Skaftouros, Vangelis Zambounis, Vasilis Roubetis, and Dionysis Mouzakitis. The murders appear to have been ordered in an attempt to take control of illegal tobacco and petroleum product trafficking.
The man arrested in Aspropyrgos had established a gang behind bombing attacks, thefts, assaults, and other serious crimes. Police officers had been shadowing him for quite some time, monitoring his every move as well as his phone communications.
Mobile phones and electronic devices found will be transferred to Criminological Laboratories for analysis, as they may reveal details about illegal activities that have occurred in our country and remain unsolved to this day.
The 36-year-old is skilled in martial arts and his name has a permanent presence among both (few) named and (many) anonymous complaints regarding his involvement in extortion cases. Together with three other members of the “pitbull” team, they undertook difficult “jobs” requiring force and pressure to extract money.
He had a serious criminal record
The boxer has troubled authorities several times in the past, mainly for theft, participation in criminal organizations, and drug law violations.
Police sources tell parapolitika.gr that as early as 2007, the first case file was formed against him for theft by conspiracy. In 2011, a case was formed for participation in a criminal organization, aggravated thefts and attempts, as he and his then-associates carried out thefts from schools in Western Attica.
A similar case file was formed against him a year later, in 2012. In 2016, he was found with drugs in his possession in the Chalkida area, while in 2017 he was targeted by the Burglary Unit for forming and participating in a criminal organization, robberies, thefts, forgeries, and arsons. During that period, the organization he participated in was involved in thefts and armed robberies in Attica and Boeotia.
