Following the shocking scenes of a 5-year-old boy’s rescue in Kaminia, another case of a minor locked in an apartment was reported to authorities today, this time in central Athens. According to police sources, at noon a woman, a social worker by profession, discovered that in a fourth-floor apartment on Agiou Meletiou Street in Agios Panteleimonas, another child was locked and left unsupervised – this time a 6-year-old girl.

The Immediate Action unit moved swiftly and arrived at the scene around 1:00 PM, where after securing the area, they reportedly broke into the house and freed the little girl. Shortly afterwards, police located and arrested the child’s 31-year-old mother.
The woman is from Uganda and according to information, she was staying in the apartment which had been provided to her by an NGO that offers assistance to vulnerable mothers.
The woman was arrested on charges of neglect of supervision of a minor and endangering a minor.
