An elderly man in Thessaloniki proved lucky when he fell into the Thermaikos Gulf on Thursday afternoon (28/8). The 85-year-old was found in the sea shortly after 1:00 PM near the Concert Hall, immediately triggering an alarm to local authorities.
Police officers from the riot police (MAT) and special forces (OPKE) who were in the area due to security measures for Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’s presence reacted immediately, diving into the water and pulling him out before a Coast Guard vessel collected him. The elderly man had retained consciousness and was immediately taken by an EKAV ambulance to be transported to a hospital.
