No one can believe the tragic end for the 72-year-old from Dafni, Skydra. Relatives and friends said their final goodbyes today at the Holy Church of Saint Panteleimon, while news that his 76-year-old fellow villager killed him and dragged him with a car to dump him at a landfill continues to shock the community.
“We have suffered tremendously for 10 days. We searched for my husband for 9 days. We just want peace now. I want to thank the authorities who did their job properly and I will leave the rest to justice. What the perpetrator did to my husband is macabre. Not only did he kill him, but he dragged him and dumped him,” stated the 72-year-old’s wife.
Skydra: “Someone helped him,” says the perpetrator’s cousin
According to the perpetrator’s cousin speaking to Live News, there are suspicions that he wasn’t alone during the murder of the 72-year-old. “You can’t just go wait to go for a peach and then go kill someone, take a life. They had no feud. Now if he saw the man there nearby and this terrible thing happened. And we’re saying now, he wasn’t alone. It’s impossible, Giannis weighs 140 kilos. When a person dies, they become 200 and… Someone helped him.”
The deadly ambush
The 76-year-old confessed to setting up an ambush for his fellow villager. He shot him in cold blood twice with his rifle, in the middle of the road. “The perpetrator thought he saw him in his field, which I don’t believe because my father was returning from shopping. They found the meat he bought, the cheese and everything he bought for home. Would he go to the field with cheese? He thought so, it had probably gotten into his head. I once saw this man myself, passing by and cursing, but my father never paid attention, they never came to blows, and he never went to find him to argue even though the other man was cursing,” the victim’s daughter said.
The 76-year-old’s “performance”
While the 72-year-old’s family lived in agony for days over their loved one’s fate, his murderer walked among them in the village as if nothing had happened. A recent incident at the village café was what led investigators to focus on the 76-year-old killer. Tomorrow, the 76-year-old confessed murderer is expected to give his testimony before the investigating magistrate.
