In an atmosphere of deep emotion, relatives and friends said their final goodbye today, Wednesday 27/08, to journalist and author Dimitris Konstantaras, who passed away at the age of 79. The funeral of Dimitris Konstantaras took place at the First Cemetery and the funeral service was held at the Holy Church of Saints Theodore. The deceased’s family requested that instead of wreaths, donations be made to support the work of TASEH.

Who was Dimitris Konstantaras
A journalist, author, politician and television and radio producer.
He was born on October 9, 1946, in Athens, the son of actors Lambros Konstantaras and Ioulia Georgopoulou. In 2002, he was elected Regional Councilor of Attica with Yiannis Tzanetakos’s faction, finishing first.
He was married to Vicky Vourlaki, with whom he had two children: Pavlina, who is a director, music-radio producer and entrepreneur, and Lambros Konstantaras, who is a journalist, television presenter, internet specialist and music-radio producer.
He worked as editor, columnist, editor-in-chief and editorial director for many newspapers.
From November 2016 to July 2017, he worked as editorial director of the World Classical Literature series by Smyrniotakis Publications and supervised the publication of 24 books.
He was a regular member of ESHEA, PSAT, the Association Internationale de la Presse Sportive (AIPS), the Greek Association of Theatrical Writers (EETHS) and the Pan-Hellenic Gymnastics Association.
Dimitris Konstantaras’s political career
In the 2004 national elections, he was elected MP with the New Democracy party. In the 2007 national elections, he was not re-elected. In 2009, as a candidate for the Popular Orthodox Rally in Athens A’, he ranked 2nd (first runner-up). In the 2010 municipal elections, he was elected municipal councilor (first in the sixth municipal district) with Nikitas Kaklamanis’s faction and subsequently was elected secretary of the municipal council and member of the quality of life committee.
In the May 2014 municipal elections, he was re-elected municipal councilor with Aris Spiliotopopoulos’s faction and subsequently resigned from the faction and became independent. He was elected member of the Board of Directors of the cultural organization OPANDA. In 2015, he resigned from OPANDA and was appointed vice-president of the “Insurance Consulting Services Company for Local Government.” He returned to New Democracy following an invitation from Antonis Samaras and was a parliamentary candidate in the January 2015 elections in Athens A’, but was not elected.
