While relatives and friends were accompanying the 36-year-old woman to her final resting place in Korytsa, who was murdered by her husband at the entrance of her home in Volos, the 40-year-old perpetrator was arriving at the prosecutor’s office to give his testimony. The procedure lasted only half an hour and his claims were not convincing, resulting in the prosecutor and investigator deciding to detain him.
Volos femicide: “Feeling that she was cheating on him, deceiving him, he reached this tragic outcome”
Vasilis Noulezas, lawyer of the 40-year-old, spoke to Live News about the object with which the 40-year-old killed her.
“Regarding that object from the barbecue they used for grilling, which had a knife-like end with a wooden handle, he took it in his anger and rage to initially frighten her without intending to kill her. When he committed this heinous crime, essentially butchering her in front of the children’s eyes, one of whom rushed to intervene and protect her. Afterwards, moving away to a diameter of about two hundred meters, entering some plot of land, he threw it somewhere, without being able to remember where.”
Regarding what the 36-year-old’s sister said, who mentioned that her sister was living a life of hell next to the 40-year-old, he said:
“The 40-year-old was a devoted husband, he wasn’t violent. He didn’t suddenly go crazy. Based on evidence and proof retrieved from her phone, which her sister deleted, who comes out and speaks… A man who feels his woman is cheating on him and cuckolding him will naturally check and have suspicions and argue with his wife. She was asking him to come back, to transfer the house lease exclusively to her, to settle her financially. She had both one and the other. So, feeling that she was cheating on him, deceiving him, he reached this tragic outcome. He lost his composure. We found communication between the deceased and her sister where she spoke and told her about her new romantic partner with exchange of messages of romantic content.”
The children didn’t attend the 36-year-old’s funeral
The atmosphere in Korytsa was heavy. The 36-year-old’s funeral took place without the presence of her four children, although they would have wanted to be there.
“I wanted to go to Albania for mom but I can’t go because they won’t process my papers, because if I go there I have to stay 3 months and I don’t want to go because I have the little ones, I don’t want to leave them and I won’t go. I went over here, I saw my mother, that’s all,” said the woman’s daughter.
What these children experienced is unimaginable. The daughter and the 13-year-old son saw their father kill their mother before their eyes. The girl’s description is shocking.
– Were you in front?
– Yes. My mother was screaming “help, help” and he did it quickly and left. I saw everything, when he stabbed her and when she screamed and when he pulled her by the hair, threw her down and everything. It was me and my brother, he’s 13 years old. I don’t want to see him in front of me anymore.
The 13-year-old tried to protect his mother
The 13-year-old son tried to protect his mother. He got between her and his father. However, the 40-year-old, in a state of frenzy, threw him against the glass door of the building entrance.
And then, he began stabbing with fury, with the grilling tool, all over the body of his 36-year-old wife.
“Because he wanted to protect his mom, he went down the stairs, was pulling him and he grabbed him by the hand and threw him at the glass. I will always be next to them, I will give my life and do everything for them, the best life. I’m trying only for the children, not for myself, now that my sister is gone… What can I say?” said the 36-year-old’s sister.
The 40-year-old femicide perpetrator’s suicide attempt
Just two months earlier, these children had witnessed yet another act by their father. They had seen him attempt to end his life on the balcony of their home.
“He hanged himself on the balcony, he did it in front of the children. There was a bang there, a noise was heard, the child got up, the little one, the boy, went to the balcony and sees him with a strap around his neck and shouts: ‘mom, mom, dad’. He did it so my sister would pity him,” added the 36-year-old’s sister.
The 40-year-old’s eldest daughter also spoke about the suicide attempt.
“My father worked in construction, while for the last two months he has been unemployed. My dad about two months ago had gone to the balcony of our house, took a rope and attempted to hang himself. We then called the police and he was taken to the psychiatric clinic of Volos hospital, where he was given medication. As far as I know, my dad told the doctors he was fine and returned to our house. Previously he was calm but for the last six months he was nervous and constantly shouting at my mother.
“I assume this happened because he was jealous of her, constantly scolding her and he always started the fight. He didn’t want her to go out alone from the house, he always wanted to accompany her wherever she went. I constantly heard arguments but I didn’t want to pay attention. Sometimes he threatened to kill her, however I didn’t believe he was capable of doing it.”
Despite all this, this man was judged, after his hospitalization in the psychiatric ward, to be able to return to his home. To be in the same space again with his children and wife. The tragedy didn’t take long to happen.
