An investigation is underway into the possible involvement of 6 children in starting wildfires in Evia. Evia online reports that two specialized teams from the Arson Crime Investigation Directorate arrived from Athens to the area, as testimonies from children and parents began following a prosecutor’s order.

The same report notes that children aged 13 and 14 have already come forward with their guardians to provide explanations regarding their possible direct or indirect involvement in starting serious fires in the broader area of Eretria Municipality. Video evidence is also being examined.
Investigation into 8 children in previous days
In previous days, following discussions with experienced officers from the Arson Crime Investigation Directorate (DAEE) who came from Athens, and in cooperation with officers from the Evia Fire Department, a group of 8 minor children allegedly responsible for setting fires over the past year in the Amarynthos area of Eretria Municipality came to light.
All were questioned along with their parents as part of the immediate investigation. The detentions that lasted until midnight on Tuesday, August 5, did not result in arrests.
