Ecstasy pills and other drugs were being trafficked to nightclubs in Syros by two young men and a woman who were arrested following days of police surveillance. Two of the perpetrators, aged 19 and 24, had taken charge of distributing the pills to nightclubs while the 38-year-old woman was responsible for supplying the gang with drugs.
Party pills, as “XTC” are commonly called, had flooded the island in recent days and police were searching for the traffickers. When they located the two young men, they began surveillance operations. On Saturday, police from the Crime Investigation and Detection Unit of Syros-Ermoupolis decided to make the arrests.
Syros: How the drug traffickers were tracked down
With the help of a specially trained K-9 sniffer dog from the coast guard, police found in the homes of the three arrested individuals 171 “ECSTASY” narcotic pills, 91 grams of unknown composition narcotic substance, 27 grams of raw cannabis, an air pistol with metal pellets, a knife with a 6.5-centimeter blade, two scales and 1,910 euros in cash, which is believed to come from the sale of narcotic substances.
According to the same journalistic sources, the gang members had started distributing the pills about a month ago, coinciding with the beginning of the summer season.
For now, police have not managed to identify the suppliers of the narcotic pills to the trafficking gang, which has now become a primary focus of the investigation.
