The ferry reached Lavrio under its own power using one engine after the failure was partially repaired. Lavrio was the vessel’s original destination. For safety reasons, two Coast Guard patrol boats, two tugboats, and three nearby vessels rushed to the scene to escort the ferry, as strong winds of 6-7 Beaufort scale were blowing in the area. Additionally, the IONIS was accompanied by a second tugboat that was sailing in the broader region and was deployed by the rescue coordination center.
It should be noted that the docking procedure is now beginning with the assistance of tugboats, after the IONIS safely moored with the support of the Coast Guard at Lavrio port.
