A devastating wildfire is raging in the Keratea area of Eastern Attica, leaving one person dead and causing significant damage to homes. The fire front extends across a seven-kilometer radius, while strong winds in the area are hampering firefighting efforts.
The wildfire is moving threateningly toward the areas of Thymari, Triantafyllia, and Palaia Fokaia. Residents of these areas are anxiously monitoring the situation as the uncontrolled front directly threatens their homes.
Intensive firefighting efforts are underway with the deployment of significant forces:
- 260 firefighters operating on site
- 10 ground teams from the 1st EMODE
- 77 fire trucks
- 13 aircraft and 15 helicopters until sunset

Heart-wrenching scenes were captured by ERT cameras, showing volunteers with shovels in hand desperately trying to save a home in Thymari. The volunteers didn’t hesitate to jump over fences to reach the property and extinguish the flames, while simultaneously trying to pass fire hoses through the railings.
The situation remains critical as the wildfire continues to threaten residential areas, with firefighters and volunteers engaged in a relentless battle to contain the destruction.
