The operation to refloat the ferry boat “Panagia Paravouniotissa,” which had run aground on rocks off the coast of Nea Styra, was successfully completed on Thursday afternoon. The vessel, escorted by tugboats and Coast Guard vessels, was safely guided to the port of Nea Styra, where the owners of vehicles that had remained inside the ferry since Tuesday afternoon were waiting, when the grounding occurred on the rocky islet “Glaros.”

According to evima, the refloating operation began at 6:00 PM on Thursday afternoon, after all relevant Ministry of Maritime Affairs services completed their assessments and the Port Authority issued the necessary decision.
The ferry boat was safely towed to the fishing shelter of Nea Styra, completing the difficult operation that caused intense mobilization of authorities. Divers had discovered 20-meter cracks in the ferry boat.

“Regarding the grounding incident of FERRY BOAT PANAGIA PARAVOUNIOTISSA that occurred on August 5, 2025, we further inform you today 7-8-2025 at 17:50 as follows:
The ship-owning company and the company that has undertaken the vessel’s refloating has submitted a relevant action plan and is awaiting approval from port authorities. This plan prioritizes sealing the ship, refloating and transporting it, towed to Nea Styra in order to unload passengers’ vehicles. Subsequently, the ship will be towed to a shipyard to complete its repair.
