Evidence continues to mount regarding the actions of two young Roma men who were arrested for the violent clash with gunfire that occurred on August 6, 2025, in Aspropygos, between groups of young Roma and ethnic Greeks from the former Soviet Union.
The two men, aged 26 and 23, were located by authorities and arrested as protagonists in this bloody incident that caused upheaval in the local community. Criminal charges have been filed against them, including attempted murder, causing dangerous bodily harm through conspiracy and continuation, threats, property damage, violation of weapons legislation, insult, and receiving stolen goods.
As part of the investigation, police authorities conducted searches at the residences of the two arrested individuals, where weapons and ammunition were found and confiscated. Among them were pistols, rifles, and bullets hidden in various makeshift hiding places, even inside concrete blocks, demonstrating the seriousness of the case and the level of preparation by the perpetrators.
Specifically, the following items were found and confiscated:
- pistol with magazine,
- replica pistol,
- rifle reported stolen from the Nafplio area and
- 10 cartridges.
“It should be noted that the pistol and magazine were found carefully hidden between concrete blocks, near a sewage pipe, while the rifle and cartridges were in a hiding place in the roof of a house,” the Hellenic Police reported.

Aspropygos: the extensive criminal past of the two arrested suspects
The two suspects arrested for the shootings in Aspropygos against ethnic Greeks from the former Soviet Union are well known to authorities.
The two young Roma men, aged 23 and 26, were arrested within an Aspropygos settlement and face charges including attempted murder and dangerous bodily harm through conspiracy and serial offenses, threats and property damage through conspiracy, violation of weapons laws, insult, and receiving and disposing of stolen goods.
Specifically, the 26-year-old defendant has had the following criminal cases filed against him:
1. In May 2025, for violation of Law 2696/1999 “driving without a license,” articles 167 of the Penal Code “violence against officials,” 361 PC “insult” and 169 PC “disobedience,”
2. In March 2025, he was prosecuted by decision of the 3rd Single-Member Court of Appeals for Felonies of Athens, according to which he was sentenced to thirteen years and six months imprisonment, and a fine of 2,500 euros for violation of articles 45, 372, 380 PC “theft and robbery through conspiracy.”
3. In April 2024, for violation of article 372 PC “theft,”
4. In February 2024, for violation of Law 2696/1999 “dangerous driving and driving without a license.”
5. In September 2023, for violation of articles 45, 372 PC “theft through conspiracy” and 167 PC “violence against officials.”
6. In September 2022, for violation of article 167 PC “violence against officials,” 169 PC “disobedience” and Law 2696/1999 “driving without a license.”
7. On 13/09/2022, for violation of articles 45, 372 PC “theft through conspiracy.”
8. On 17/08/2022, for violation of article 372 PC “theft.”
9. On 27/05/2022, for violation of articles 45, 184 PC “incitement to commit crimes, violence or discord through conspiracy.”
10. On 29/10/2021 for violation of articles 45, 184 PC “incitement to commit crimes, violence or discord through conspiracy.”
11. On 18/05/2020 for violation of Law 2696/1999 “driving without a license” and
12. On 05/11/2019 for violation of articles 45, 372 and 380 PC “robbery and theft through conspiracy” and Law 2696/99 “Traffic Code.”
For the 23-year-old defendant, the following criminal cases have been filed:
1. Last May, for violation of article 361 PC “insult,” article 333 PC “threat” and article 169 PC “disobedience.”
2. In October 2024, for violation of articles 45, 372 PC “theft through conspiracy.”
3. In June 2020, for violation of articles 299 PC “premeditated murder,” 380 PC “robbery” and Law 2168/93 “weapons law.”
Moreover, the 26-year-old defendant is required to appear three times per month at the local police station of his residence, although he has violated this obligation in the past.
As for the 23-year-old, he has been imposed with the restrictive condition of appearing within the first five days of each month at the local police station of his residence, as well as residing at the address he declared in Aspropygos.
