Emergency alert sounded for the fire service as fires broke out across Thasos on Wednesday evening (6/8). Fighting 4 separate fire fronts on the island are 18 firefighters with 8 vehicles, 6 aircraft and 1 helicopter. Additionally, 50 firefighters with 3 ground teams from the 2nd and 7th EMODE units and 13 vehicles will travel by ferry from Kavala to Thasos.

According to kavalanews.gr, the fires in the areas of Prinos, Kazaviti and Maries were most likely caused by lightning strikes.
