Greece braces for another heat wave on Thursday with temperatures reaching 37°C, strong 8 Beaufort winds in the Aegean, and brief mountain showers expected.

Temperatures will continue their upward trend on Thursday, August 7, with weather becoming even hotter across the country. Meanwhile, winds will strengthen significantly, reaching intensities of 8 Beaufort in the Aegean Sea.

Weather forecast from the National Meteorological Service for Thursday, August 7

According to official meteorological data from the National Meteorological Service, weather will remain generally clear across most of Greek territory. However, certain regions will experience different conditions.

Local rainfall is expected to occur mainly in the following areas:

  • Crete: Mountainous parts of the island until afternoon hours
  • Northern mainland: Mainly mountainous zones during midday and afternoon hours

Winds will blow from northern directions with variable intensity depending on the region. In most areas of the country they will reach 4 to 6 Beaufort, while in the Aegean the intensity will increase to 7 and locally to 8 Beaufort. Temperature will show a small but noticeable rise, especially in western parts of the country.

Specifically, temperatures will range:

In most areas they will reach 33 to 36 degrees Celsius. Western mainland areas will record the highest values, with mercury touching locally 37 degrees Celsius. In contrast, the Cyclades, Sporades and northern Crete will remain at lower levels, with temperature not exceeding 30 degrees Celsius.

ATTICA

  • Weather: Generally clear.
  • Winds: Northern 5 to 6 and in eastern areas 7 and possibly 8 Beaufort.
  • Temperature: From 24 to 34 degrees Celsius.

THESSALONIKI

  • Weather: Temporary clouds with possibility of local showers in surrounding mountains at midday – afternoon.
  • Winds: Northern northwestern 4 to 5 Beaufort.
  • Temperature: From 21 to 32 degrees Celsius.

MACEDONIA, THRACE

  • Weather: Few clouds temporarily increased early morning and midday – afternoon hours, with local showers mainly in mountainous areas.
  • Winds: From northern directions 4 to 6 Beaufort.
  • Temperature: From 19 to 35 and in Thrace up to 36 degrees Celsius. In western Macedonia the minimum 2 to 3 degrees lower.

IONIAN ISLANDS, EPIRUS, WESTERN CENTRAL GREECE, WESTERN PELOPONNESE

  • Weather: Generally clear with temporary local clouds during midday – afternoon hours in mainland mountains. Possibility of local showers in Epirus mountains.
  • Winds: From northern directions 4 to 5 and in the Ionian in the afternoon locally 6 Beaufort.
  • Temperature: From 20 to 34 and in mainland areas up to 37 degrees Celsius. In the interior of Epirus the minimum 3 to 4 degrees lower.

THESSALY, EASTERN CENTRAL GREECE, EVIA, EASTERN PELOPONNESE

  • Weather: In Thessaly temporary local clouds with possibility of local showers in mountains during midday – afternoon hours. In other areas generally clear.
  • Winds: From northern directions 4 to 6 and in eastern areas locally 7 to 8 Beaufort.
  • Temperature: From 19 to 36 degrees Celsius.

CYCLADES, CRETE

  • Weather: In Cyclades generally clear. In Crete temporary clouds until afternoon, with local rain mainly in mountainous areas.
  • Winds: Northern 6 to 7 and in Cyclades locally 8 Beaufort.
  • Temperature: From 24 to 30 and locally in southern Crete up to 34 degrees Celsius.

EASTERN AEGEAN ISLANDS – DODECANESE

  • Weather: Generally clear.
  • Winds: From northern directions 5 to 7 and in northern areas locally 8 Beaufort.
  • Temperature: From 24 to 35 degrees Celsius.
