Crete: Defense lawyer resigns as doctor faces felony charges in summer camp abuse case
The charges against him were upgraded to felony status following new complaints filed against him, while by prosecutorial order his personal details were made public. A surprising development occurred when, shortly before his testimony, the defendant’s lawyer, Mr. Stefanoyannis, announced his resignation from the case.
Timeline of the case
The doctor was initially brought before judicial authorities following a complaint by a 14-year-old girl at the Chania summer camp, who told her parents that on Friday, July 25, she visited the camp’s medical clinic due to severe pain.
During the subsequent examination, the doctor began touching her inappropriately in areas not justified by the medical examination and in an indecent manner. The minor’s parents proceeded to file a complaint with police authorities.
