The 32-year-old Algerian mother, accused of murdering her three-year-old daughter Jenna, was sent to prison. Following her testimony to the investigating judge, and with the prosecutor’s consent, she was ordered into pretrial detention.
During her testimony, attended by her lawyers Evita Varela and George Kriemmadis, the 32-year-old denied the charges and insisted it was an accident. According to sources, she claimed that little Jenna fell in the bathroom and was injured while she had stepped away to get her water.
As she reportedly stated, she found the child unconscious and tried to revive her, but when the little girl lost consciousness again, she panicked and believed she was dead. “At that moment, what I thought was to go to the sea. It was my mistake and I regret it, but she was already dead,” she allegedly claimed.
In her testimony, the accused also maintained that she took the tram and went to Paleo Faliro. As she said, she bought items from a kiosk, took the children to the playground, and then entered the sea, leaving Jenna behind. “I couldn’t bear to turn back and look at the child,” she reportedly said.
Her defense is expected to appoint a technical advisor, while a request has already been submitted to the investigating judge to have an independent forensic examiner determine whether Jenna’s injuries occurred before or after death. The 32-year-old reportedly categorically denied that she had abused her child in the past.
