An alert has been issued at Ofrynio beach in Kavala, following the sudden disappearance of 59-year-old British tourist Michele Ann Joy Bourda. The woman had arrived in the area for a short holiday with her husband, a Greek citizen, and they were staying in a house in a village in Serres.
Her disappearance occurred on Friday afternoon, August 1, when she vanished from her beach chair while her husband was sleeping. When he woke up, he discovered that his wife was nowhere to be found. He is particularly worried, as the 59-year-old has previously shown a vulnerable psychological state—in 2020 she had also disappeared in London following her job dismissal, but was eventually located by authorities. The man expresses fears for her health and safety and hopes that there will soon be some trace of her.

The news of the British tourist’s disappearance has shocked the local community as well as the media in Britain. Authorities immediately mobilized from the first moment, conducting searches with the participation of the Coast Guard, police and volunteers, but no trace of her has been found. Those who were nearby at the time on the beach have not been able to provide substantial information regarding the case of the 59-year-old woman’s disappearance. Some claim they saw her swimming in the deep waters of the sea while others say they saw her walking away from the spot on foot.
The family’s anguish peaks as days pass while authorities have issued a Silver Alert as they believe her life may be in danger. The beach where she disappeared is surrounded by extensive farmland, houses and a large reservoir. In the Silver Alert, the tourist is described as a woman 1.73m tall, thin, with blue eyes and shoulder-length hair. Sources report that her personal belongings were found on the beach after she disappeared.
