The 15-year-old Dimitris has been taken off the ventilator and is now communicating with his surroundings, announced Le Molinette hospital in Turin, where the Greek teenager underwent a liver transplant last Thursday. Italian doctors reported that the restoration of graft functionality was extremely rapid and that the 10-hour operation saved the patient from certain death due to liver failure.
“He may be discharged in about a month if his recovery continues at the current pace”
At this stage, Dimitris is in the “Semi-Intensive Care Unit” of the Liver Transplant Center at Le Molinette Hospital, where the gradual and satisfactory return of his neurological system function continues.
As announced by Le Molinette hospital and Professor Renato Romagnoli (who, together with his medical team, performed this specific transplant), “if the Greek patient’s recovery continues at the current pace, he may be discharged in about a month”.
