Intense frustration prevails in Tinos, as power outages continue for more than two weeks, while the tourist season is at its peak, just 12 days before the island’s major feast of the Virgin Mary. On Saturday evening, a new sudden outage occurred during the big festival in Kardiani, while crowds of people were celebrating.
Despite the blackout, spirits didn’t dim. The singer kept the rhythm going a cappella with his voice and energy, while the crowd responded with applause and singing, continuing the celebration with defiance and enthusiasm, according to Tinos Today.
Tinos: Power outages severely affect the island’s businesses
It should be noted that the island’s municipality has filed a lawsuit against HEDNO and all responsible parties for the repeated outages. The mayor denounces poor network maintenance and speaks of particular conditions.
It’s worth noting that power outages are usually followed by water supply interruptions, since Tinos gets its water supply largely from desalination.
The power outages severely affect the island’s professionals, whether in restaurants or tourism, especially during a period when all payments are now made by card.
Additionally, voltage drops, extremely frequent in Tinos, also impact residents’ electrical appliances.
