Deep mourning prevails in the artistic and technical community, as well as in the local society of Kavala, following the news of the death of Giannis Artopoulos, who lost his life on Saturday in a car accident near Egnatia Highway, in Grevena, where he was traveling for professional obligations.
The 51-year-old sound engineer was a close collaborator of singer Konstantinos Argyros and had a long presence in the field of music production, sound and lighting coverage for events. Local media describe him as one of the most beloved and active members of Kavala’s artistic community — a honorable, kind person, always smiling, who never spoke badly about anyone. He was, as those who knew him say, “one of the best people.” Giannis Artopoulos leaves behind his wife and their 12-year-old daughter.
How the accident happened
The tragic accident occurred on Saturday morning, around 10:00 AM, on Egnatia Highway, near Grevena. The vehicle driven by Giannis Artopoulos, which was carrying sound equipment, veered off course and crashed into the protective guardrails. From the violent collision, the driver was fatally injured, while his 21-year-old passenger was injured and transported to Grevena General Hospital, where he is being treated. The funeral of Giannis Artopoulos will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at 5:00 PM, at the Holy Church of Saints Theodore, at the Municipal Cemetery of Kavala.
Konstantinos Argyros’ reaction
The loss of his beloved collaborator was also confirmed by Konstantinos Argyros through a post on Instagram, noting:
“Tonight’s concert (Saturday) is postponed and will take place tomorrow, Sunday August 3, at the same venue and time, due to a tragic incident that affects the concert’s production team.” He continues: “We deeply understand and respect the presence and inconvenience of those who already came to the stadium. Your support in this difficult moment is precious and touching. However, everyone’s safety and respect for a particularly emotionally charged human moment takes priority. Tickets remain valid for the new date. We warmly thank you for your understanding and support.”
