Authorities proceeded with the arrest of the parents of the 11-year-old girl who was found dead in the sea off Rodopi, as they are considered responsible for exposing a minor to danger, since the unfortunate girl did not know how to swim. The local community of Rodopi is in shock following the tragic news of the discovery of the dead 11-year-old girl in the sea, who was swept away with an inflatable float and recovered dead shortly after noon on Friday (1/8).

According to information from ERT, the girl had entered the sea in Rodopi with an inflatable mattress and arm floats since she did not know how to swim. The Coast Guard confirmed this fact in an announcement, while the same announcement revealed that the child’s parents were arrested for exposing a minor to danger. The child entered the sea in the Imeros area of Rodopi, when she suddenly began drifting away due to currents and winds.
There was immediate mobilization and the minor was eventually located by an Air Force helicopter and rescued by a diving vessel with the assistance of a lifeguard, then transported to the port of Imeros. First aid was provided to the 11-year-old by the lifeguard and she was subsequently transported by EKAB ambulance to Sismanoglio Hospital in Komotini, where her death was confirmed.
