The weather pattern is shifting from Monday (28/09) as the most intense conditions that struck the Peloponnese, Euboea, and the Aegean gradually weaken. The storm system is slowly retreating from tomorrow, with localized rainfall expected to persist for a few more hours in certain parts of the country. Notably, electrical activity over the past 24 hours was exceptionally intense, with more than 9,000 lightning strikes recorded across the entire country. The greatest concentration of lightning activity was observed over maritime areas.
Rain expected in Euboea, Crete, and the Cyclades in the coming hours
More specifically, weather conditions will be noticeably improved on Monday, with phenomena largely confined to Crete, where only localized showers are expected. The most intense conditions in Euboea have now passed, while further easing of the storm is expected over the next few hours across the Peloponnese and the Aegean. The improvement will gradually move from north to south. Despite the overall de-escalation, localized showers will continue in Euboea and Central Greece, while isolated thunderstorms remain possible over Crete.
Where rainfall was heaviest
Significant rainfall totals were recorded across several regions. In Psachna, Euboea, rainfall reached 127 millimeters, while Amorgos recorded 86 millimeters and Livadi on Mount Parnassus recorded 83 millimeters. Even higher totals were measured in the southeastern Peloponnese, where Cape Malea recorded 180 millimeters of rain.
Strong winds also battered many parts of the country, with gusts exceeding 100 kilometers per hour in Penteli, Mytilene, and Rodopi. Wind speeds in the Aegean are expected to ease gradually overnight, dropping from Force 8 — reached at the height of the storm — down to Force 7.

A new change in weather conditions is expected from Wednesday, as an autumn storm system returns to several parts of the country. Heavy rainfall is forecast mainly for Euboea and Crete, while winds will strengthen significantly, reaching locally up to Force 9.
Unsettled weather is also expected across eastern mainland regions, where scattered showers and spells of instability will develop.
