A 21-year-old driver has been arrested by police authorities after video footage emerged showing him running a red light on Penteli Avenue, putting a pedestrian in immediate danger as they legally crossed the road at a designated crosswalk. The incident took place in the early morning hours of Friday, September 4th.
21-year-old runs red light on Penteli Avenue, nearly striking pedestrian
According to police, the video footage clearly shows the vehicle speeding through a red light at the exact moment a pedestrian is legally crossing the avenue at a marked crosswalk. At the same time, the front passenger is seen hanging dangerously out of the car window, at serious risk of falling onto the road. The pedestrian narrowly escaped being struck, and the video was subsequently referred to traffic police for investigation.
Video footage leads to driver identification and arrest
The footage was examined by officers from the Special Information Analysis and Social Media Unit of the O.E.P.T.A. (Traffic Police Operations Division) of the Attica Traffic Directorate. Through their investigation, officers were able to identify the driver of the vehicle — a 21-year-old Greek national, who was subsequently located and arrested.
A case file for repeated dangerous driving was filed against him by the 2nd Traffic Department of Northeastern Attica. The 21-year-old was brought before the competent public prosecutor.
