The forensic examination of the little girl found dead on Eden beach in Palaio Faliro has raised more questions than answers, despite ruling out the possibility of murder.
The child, approximately three years old and of North African origin, was found in the sea wearing a full-body swimsuit. According to estimates, she had died at least one day earlier and remained in the water for about 24 hours. The sight was shocking, as the body was severely emaciated, a fact that stunned even the specialists.
As police analyst Stavros Balaskas stated, the child bore clear signs of abuse: bruises on the face and a serious injury to the shoulder blade. “It was a malnourished, skeletal little girl… the sight shocked the coroner when he removed the swimsuit and saw the injuries,” he said characteristically.
However, the forensic experts Giorgos Di Lernia and Nikos Kalogrias who examined the body attributed the death to drowning, rejecting the possibility of criminal action, according to SKAI.
There are different assessments regarding the injuries on the body. ERT reported that the injuries were post-mortem, possibly from the body being dragged against rocks, while SKAI reported that the investigation remains open.
The child’s condition is also concerning, as she was clearly malnourished and reportedly had a stomach problem, though no further clarifications have been provided yet.
The biggest mystery is that no one has searched for the little girl. Although there are indications she was receiving care, she remains unclaimed, raising critical questions about who was caring for her and under what conditions she was living.
