A shocking new incident of gender-based violence in Kallithea, Athens, has come to light, with a 19-year-old woman as the victim and her 18-year-old ex-boyfriend as the perpetrator, who attacked her with a knife. According to the young woman’s account, the two had arranged to meet in the Kallithea area, where her ex-boyfriend attacked her with a kitchen knife and stabbed her in the leg. Speaking to MEGA television, the young woman stated that her former partner was pathologically jealous and had attacked her before. The 18-year-old even threatened that if he had a gun, he would have pulled the trigger.
Kallithea: The victim’s shocking account
“I had already filed two complaints against him for bad behavior — he used to hit me. He would snap out of nowhere. I had given him a second chance, but after a very long time, the same thing happened again. We were talking and had arranged to meet up to talk. He was extremely jealous and obsessed with me. He goes through everything,” she said. “If he had a gun, he would have killed me — he would have shot me in the head. We sat down to talk and he simply pulled out the knife, stabbed me in the leg, and walked away. As long as he was out there, I was terrified,” the 19-year-old added.
A passerby alerted a patrol car
At the time of the attack, a passerby witnessed what had happened and immediately notified police officers. A patrol car in the area stopped at the scene, and officers stepped in to assist the young woman. The 19-year-old was transported to Laiko Hospital, where she received first aid. The moment the passerby noticed the situation and flagged down the patrol car was captured on video, which MEGA has made public.
“He called me from another phone while I was in the hospital”
The 19-year-old’s family members are also left deeply shaken, having learned of the attack while she was still in the hospital. Her grandmother recounted how the young woman called her to explain what had happened, and added that the 18-year-old’s behavior toward her granddaughter had already been a source of concern for the family in the past. “She called me from someone else’s phone while she was at the hospital and told me that C. had stabbed her with a knife. She told me they had broken up and that he kept contacting her for various reasons. He had hit her before and she didn’t want him, but he kept harassing her by phone,” she said. Following a police search, the 18-year-old was located in Kallithea and arrested. He has been charged with domestic violence and theft and now faces criminal proceedings.
