The community at Koufonisia is in shock following the drowning of a woman who was aboard a day cruise boat, dived into the sea, and lost consciousness — never to recover despite resuscitation efforts. The tragedy occurred on Tuesday morning (25/8) at Kato Koufonisi, according to cyclades24.gr. The woman was a passenger on a day cruise boat that had departed from Naxos bound for Koufonisia. According to unconfirmed reports so far, the victim was a 69-year-old foreign national, a British citizen.

During a stop the vessel made at a remote beach on Kato Koufonisi, the woman dived into the sea. Shortly afterwards, under circumstances that remain unclear, she lost consciousness. An alarm was immediately raised and an operation was launched to provide assistance and transfer her to the port. Once there, CPR resuscitation efforts were carried out, however it proved impossible to revive her, and her death was subsequently confirmed.
The exact circumstances surrounding the tragic incident are expected to be investigated by the relevant authorities.
