Extremely high temperatures, above 40 degrees Celsius, were recorded at midday on Friday (25/7), the day that according to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service, marks the peak of the first intense heatwave of this summer.

According to data from the National Observatory of Athens and meteo.gr at 15:00, the temperature broke through the 45 degrees Celsius barrier. The highest temperature across the country was recorded in Skala Messinia, where the mercury climbed to 45.8 degrees Celsius.
Heatwave: The areas that “boiled”
The list of highest temperatures for today includes Oleni in Elis (44.3), Lindos (43.6), Asteri in Laconia (43.8), Aigies in Gythio (43.8), Petrokefali in Heraklion (43.9), Stefania in Laconia (43.3), Sparta (43.3), Angelokastro in Aetolia-Acarnania (43.2) and Iliolousto in Kilkis (43.3).
The day’s lowest temperatures
On the opposite end, the day’s lowest temperatures were recorded in Vovousa Ioannina (9.8), Neapoli Kozani (11.9), Grevena (13.5), Variko Florina (13.7), Elefthero Grevena (13.7), Mavrolithari Fokida (14.2), Tzermiado Lasithi (14.3) and Eleousa Ioannina (14.4).
