The mystery surrounding the death of a 72-year-old man, who was found dead on the back seat of a car on a side street off Konstantinou Tsiklitira Street, in the Zofria area of Ano Liosia last Saturday evening, has finally been solved. The case, which had initially raised numerous questions among authorities due to the injuries found on the victim, was cracked by the West Attica Crime Investigation and Detection Sub-Directorate, with officers arresting two men, aged 68 and 72, who are charged with negligent homicide by abandonment.
According to information obtained by parapolitika.gr, both the victim and the two suspects had been systematically working together to steal cables, transformers, and other metal objects, which they would then sell as scrap metal for financial gain.
Ano Liosia: The fatal theft and the abandonment of the victim
As revealed by the police investigation, on the night of July 31st, the three men were in the Agios Stefanos area, where they attempted to strip cables from an electrical transformer. Under circumstances investigated by authorities, the 72-year-old reportedly suffered a severe electric shock during the theft and subsequently fell from a height, sustaining fatal injuries. Rather than immediately calling an ambulance or alerting the police, the two alleged accomplices, according to the charges filed against them, loaded him into a car and transported him several kilometers away to the Zofria area of Ano Liosia, where they abandoned the vehicle with his body in the back seat in an attempt to cover their tracks.
A few hours later, on the afternoon of August 1st, officers from the DIAS motorcycle police unit, responding to a signal from the operations center, located the parked vehicle on the side street off Konstantinou Tsiklitira Street. In the back of the car, they discovered the unfortunate 72-year-old man, who bore injuries to his head and torso.
An extensive preliminary investigation, combined with intelligence gathering and evidence collection, led officers to identify the victim’s two accomplices. Arrest warrants were issued against them, and on the morning of August 4th, they were apprehended by officers of the West Attica Crime Investigation and Detection Sub-Directorate. The two suspects were brought before the competent prosecutor, and the case file compiled against them relates to the charge of negligent homicide by abandonment.
