Shocking details are emerging around a case of sexual abuse and incest that unfolded on the island of Rhodes, with a 31-year-old woman reporting systematic rape by her father. Specifically, the 31-year-old reported that her father began raping her from the age of 16, with the horror lasting nearly a decade.
This horrific case involves not only sexual abuse, but also its consequences, as a child is implicated in the case who, according to official DNA testing, is the biological offspring of his own grandfather.
The 31-year-old woman’s complaint triggered immediate intervention by the Rhodes Court of First Instance Prosecutor’s Office, while the preliminary investigation revealed a system of continuous rape, fear, isolation and psychological control.
Rhodes: Woman’s testimony shocks
According to dimokratiki.gr, the 31-year-old testified without oath and in the presence of a psychologist that her father sexually abused her from the age of 16. According to her, everything happened in the house where she lived with her grandmother and father, as her parents had divorced.
As the 31-year-old stated in her testimony, the perpetrator had been addicted to cannabis for years, while sometimes he appeared “beside himself,” violent and threatening.
According to the victim, the first sexual assault occurred when the perpetrator returned home intoxicated or under the influence of substances, pushed her and forced her to have intercourse. At that moment, the 31-year-old “froze,” was shocked and could not react. From that day and for the next ten years or so, the rapes occurred almost daily, sometimes even three times within the same day.
The description of what the woman experienced is shocking, as he allegedly dragged her by force, pushed her and forced her into acts either on the bed or standing against the wall or on a chair, holding her hands tightly. He accused her, cursed her, treated her with absolute contempt, as he allegedly said as if she wasn’t his child!
The woman, answering a related question, mentioned that her father threatened to kill her if she revealed what she was experiencing, while she also mentioned instances of violence against her grandmother, whom the perpetrator had chased with a knife.
Years passed and the woman had two children. The first with another man, with whom she no longer had any relationship, while the second, according to special DNA test results, is the biological child of her own father.
The identification that was performed showed that there is a 99.9% probability that it is his child, while a similar test on her first child excluded this possibility.
How the case was revealed
The thread of this chilling case began to unravel following a report from social services about the living conditions of the two children, which eventually led to an order for DNA testing. It should be noted that this is a special examination and for this reason there was a delay in the investigation.
As the 31-year-old mentioned, until then this possibility had never crossed her mind as she was in a relationship with another man at that time. However, the DNA test results were shocking and revealing as the 55-year-old perpetrator claimed he could not have children.
The victim described her mental state with absolute honesty: the despair, loneliness and feeling that she could not escape. Whenever she tried to leave, he would track her down and even go to her new home. Once she managed to stay alone for a few months, but could not cope financially and was forced to return. Her mother could not accommodate her, while social support was non-existent.
In many cases, her daughter was also present in the house, but she was sleeping. The victim mentioned that she often asked the child if anything had happened, without detecting any worrying signs. Her daughter was afraid of him, but there are no indications –so far– that she too has fallen victim.
Father denies the charges
The accused in his testimony denied the rape charges, however he admitted that there was sexual contact. The 55-year-old claimed that the sexual contacts were “consensual” and that they stopped when they “realized it wasn’t right.”
This statement provoked strong reaction and is characterized as cynical and disconnected from the reality of the power relationship between father and daughter.
