Police authorities have arrested the brother of a deputy mayor after he allegedly breached the exclusion zone established at the site of the crash involving two firefighting helicopters in Psatha, where investigations into the circumstances of the tragedy are still ongoing.
According to reports, the man drove his vehicle into the strictly guarded area despite access being prohibited until the relevant authorities complete their on-site inspections. Sources further indicate that his vehicle collided with wreckage from one of the helicopters, prompting an immediate response from police officers stationed at the scene.
The man was arrested under flagrante delicto procedures and has been charged with insubordination and unlawful entry into a restricted area.
Shortly after the incident, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division was dispatched to the area to photograph the exact point of contact between the vehicle and the wreckage, and to assess whether any evidence considered critical to the investigation had been disturbed or displaced.
