As the Misdemeanor Council of Syros prepares to convene and rule on whether the 41-year-old accused of fatally injuring a 42-year-old EKAB paramedic will be remanded in custody or released under restrictive conditions, the defense is raising formal objections over the procedure being followed.

Speaking exclusively to parapolitika.gr, the suspect’s attorney, Vassilis Alexandris, revealed that his client was never summoned to appear before the Council, despite having formally requested to do so — a right he argues is explicitly provided for under procedural law.
The defense lawyer also expressed serious concerns about the speed at which proceedings are unfolding, suggesting that proper procedural order is not being fully observed at such a critical juncture — one in which the Council must decide what coercive measures, if any, should be imposed on his client.
What the defense says about the video evidence
Addressing the video footage included in the case file, the 41-year-old’s attorney argued that it constitutes particularly significant evidence. In his assessment, the footage supports the defense’s version of events — namely, that the victim had already sustained her injury before exiting the residence.
He noted that this material has already been submitted to judicial authorities and is expected to be evaluated as part of the case proceedings, as it is one of the key pieces of evidence bearing on the central question of whether the fatal stabbing occurred inside or outside the home.
The Council’s decision
It is worth recalling that the Misdemeanor Council has been called upon to resolve a disagreement that emerged between the examining magistrate and the prosecutor following the suspect’s formal statement. The magistrate had ruled in favor of pre-trial detention, while the prosecutor had recommended that the accused be released under restrictive conditions.
Pending the Council’s ruling, the 41-year-old remains under house arrest.
