The tragedy of the collision between two helicopters near Psatha has sparked both grief and a wave of unanswered questions. The accident claimed the lives of two people — a Danish pilot and a Greek interpreter. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances under which the fatal collision occurred. Retired Air Vice Marshal Athanasios Papanikolaou spoke about the accident, addressing among other things the blind spots that exist in helicopters, as well as the critical importance of proper coordination during multi-aircraft operations. As he explained, the role of the general coordinator differs significantly from that of a liaison officer and is a key factor in ensuring flight safety.
Referring to the specific incident, Mr. Papanikolaou noted that it is not yet known whether the required level of coordination existed between the parties involved. “The investigation will reveal that,” he stated.
