A serious domestic violence incident occurred shortly after 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, at a residential home in Rafina. According to reports, a local resident called emergency services, reporting that a 59-year-old man was physically assaulting his 59-year-old wife.
Rafina: Man threatens to harm himself as police arrive
Two motorcycle police units responded to the scene immediately. According to the same reports, when the 59-year-old noticed the presence of officers, he threatened to harm himself if they attempted to enter the house.
A large-scale police response followed, with the scene attended by a supervising officer, the local police station commander, members of the security services, and a specialized negotiator. After negotiations, the man was persuaded to release his wife to the authorities, and the situation was resolved without further escalation.
The couple was subsequently taken to the Domestic Violence Response Office in Agia Paraskevi. According to reports, a criminal case was filed against the 59-year-old and he was placed under arrest.
