A new development has emerged in the case of the disappearance of 50-year-old Chinese translator You Ting in Artemida, as her husband, Vasilis Karavasilis, filed a criminal complaint on Monday, July 13, requesting an investigation into the possible abduction and murder of his wife. He maintains that since May 20, 2026, there has been absolutely no sign of life from her.
Speaking to parapolitika.gr, Mr. Karavasilis explained that the complaint was filed so that the case would now be placed under prosecutorial supervision. “When a formal complaint is filed, a prosecutor takes over the case. Until today, there was no prosecutorial oversight. This morning we were informed that court orders had also been issued for phone records and bank accounts — something that hadn’t happened until now,” he said.
You Ting’s husband: Precious time has been lost
He believes there was a delay in investigating the disappearance from the very beginning. “The signs were there from the start. There may have been a misjudgment in how the case was initially handled, resulting in the loss of precious time. The case is now being managed by the Northeast Attica Police Directorate,” he noted.
“All the evidence points in this direction”
Mr. Karavasilis insists that there is currently no evidence whatsoever to suggest his wife disappeared voluntarily. “Based on the information we have, my wife’s passport has not been used to exit Greece. There has been no activity in her bank accounts, nor any activity on her mobile phone. Furthermore, she did not show up for a scheduled appointment at 4 o’clock in the afternoon. In my assessment, all of this evidence points to the possibility of abduction and murder,” he stated.
The financial disputes he wants investigated
Also at the center of the investigation are the financial matters You Ting was handling, which her husband considers crucial to solving the mystery of her disappearance. “We have no financial obligations. Quite the opposite — there are people who owe us a combined total of approximately €500,000,” Mr. Karavasilis told parapolitika.gr.
He explained that roughly €250,000 relates to money he claims to have lost in a property purchase deal in Kifissia. According to him, he paid the specified amount for the purchase of the property, only to discover later that the sellers had no legal ownership and are alleged to have used forged documents, while the property was ultimately transferred to a third party.
He also stated that there were individuals who, according to him, owed You Ting more than €210,000. Among the outstanding financial matters were a personal loan of €20,000, a case involving two promissory notes totaling approximately €60,000, a financial dispute with a real estate broker amounting to €100,000, as well as pending matters related to business activities, including a case involving a fuel station in Rentis.
“I cannot rule out that my wife’s disappearance is connected to one of these cases. It is a possibility that must be thoroughly investigated,” concluded Vasilis Karavasilis.
