Police from the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime arrested two Moldovans who were wanted with red notices by Interpol this afternoon at “El. Venizelos” airport.
Specifically, a 59-year-old Moldovan was arrested against whom a red notice was pending for the crimes of criminal organization, fraud and money laundering. According to information from police sources, this is Vladimir Plahotniuc, former party leader in Moldova, who is accused by his homeland’s authorities of fraud and embezzlement of tens of millions of dollars.
Regarding the second man who was arrested, he is reported to be a close associate of Plahotniuc, who has also served as a member of Moldova’s parliament.
