A special announcement was issued by Civil Protection with self-protection guidelines for high temperatures following the update of the emergency bulletin from the National Meteorological Service. The General Secretariat for Civil Protection advises citizens to be particularly careful, taking self-protection measures against risks arising from high temperatures. In areas where high temperatures are forecast, the General Secretariat for Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr) draws attention to people belonging to vulnerable groups to be particularly careful, in order to avoid health problems, such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke, which may be caused by the high temperatures that will prevail.
Civil protection: Self-protection guidelines for high temperatures
• Stay in cool and shaded areas away from crowds, use air conditioning or fans, and avoid heavy physical work in areas with high temperature, windlessness and high humidity.
• Avoid sunbathing, as well as walking or running under the sun, and wear a hat and sunglasses and light-colored clothing made from fabric that allows the skin to breathe and facilitates the evaporation of sweat, avoiding synthetic fabrics.
• Consume light meals with fruits and vegetables, limiting fats and the amount of food.
• Drink plenty of water and fruit juices, avoiding alcoholic beverages.
Special care is recommended for babies and small children, as well as the elderly and those suffering from chronic diseases to protect them from high temperatures.
The new updated weather bulletin
According to the updated Emergency Weather Deterioration Bulletin (EWDB) issued today by the National Meteorological Service, temperatures in our country will remain at very high levels in the coming days. The highest values are expected on Thursday (24-07-25) and Friday (25-07-25). Possible end of the heatwave across Greece on Sunday (27-7-2025).
It is noted that:
A. minimum temperatures will fluctuate at high levels (around 27 to 29 degrees Celsius mainly in urban centers).
B. from Friday (25-07-25) gradually in the eastern regions and mainly in the Aegean, strengthened northerly winds of intensity 6 Beaufort will prevail, which will strengthen on Saturday (26-07-25).
Until Friday (25-07-25) in more detail:
1. On Tuesday (22-07-25) and Wednesday (23-07-25) maximum temperatures will reach:
a) in mainland Greece 39 to 41, locally in central Macedonia, eastern Central Greece and eastern Peloponnese 42 and in Thessaly 43 degrees Celsius. In Athens and Thessaloniki 39 to 40 degrees.
b) in the islands of the Eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese 37 to 39 and locally on Wednesday (23-07-25) 40 to 41 degrees Celsius.
c) in the Ionian islands and on Wednesday (23-07-25) and in Crete 37 to 38 degrees Celsius.
2. On Thursday (24-07-25) maximum temperatures will reach:
a) on the mainland 39 to 41 and locally in the eastern regions 42 to 43 degrees Celsius. In Athens 41 to 42 and in Thessaloniki 40 degrees.
b) in the islands of the Eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese 38 to 40 degrees Celsius.
c) in the Ionian islands and Crete 37 to 39 degrees Celsius.
3. On Friday (25-07-25) maximum temperatures will reach:
a) on the mainland 40 to 41 and locally 42 and in the western regions 43 degrees Celsius. In Athens 41 to 42 and in Thessaloniki 39 degrees.
b) in the islands of the Eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese 38 to 40 degrees Celsius.
c) in the Ionian islands 38 to 40 degrees Celsius.
d) in southern Crete 39 degrees Celsius.
