The Hellenic Police has scheduled increased road safety measures in anticipation of exceptionally heavy vehicle traffic during the Whit Monday long weekend, from May 29 through Monday, June 1, 2026. The goal of these measures, as emphasized by the Greek Police, is to ensure safe citizen transportation and prevent traffic accidents.
Whit Monday weekend: What the safety measures include
– Intensive traffic enforcement at entrances and exits of major urban centers during the aforementioned period, where increased flow of travelers is observed to and from major cities,
– Enhanced police presence and targeted traffic enforcement in areas with mass passenger concentrations (airports, ports, stations, etc.), as well as at road network points where traffic accidents frequently occur,
– Special measures and actions within cities and at points where festive events cause increased road user traffic, aimed at establishing safe traffic order and general smooth flow,
– Formation of specialized traffic control teams that will operate at alternating road network points and focus on dangerous violations and infractions that, according to statistical data, are responsible for causing traffic accidents, such as excessive speed, drunk driving, mobile phone use while driving, failure to use protective helmets or seat belts, improper overtaking and crossing double dividing lines, etc.,
– Cooperation and coordination with all relevant agencies and services around the clock for immediate response and resolution of any problems that may arise, and
– Public information through the appropriate communication services of the force, whenever broad public information becomes necessary regarding potential traffic and other problems.
The announcement also notes that controls will be continuous and strict, while both personnel and resources of the Hellenic Police, primarily the Traffic Police Services, will be on heightened operational readiness.
Truck traffic ban over 3.5 tons during the long weekend

Specifically for outbound traffic, the truck circulation ban will be in effect on Friday (29/5) from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM and Saturday (30/5) from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
For inbound traffic, the ban will apply on Monday (1/6) from 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
