New developments are coming to light regarding the tragic incident in Athens, where a 57-year-old man took his own life inside his family’s apartment, after previously shooting his 53-year-old wife. According to information from the Police, the woman contacted emergency services at 22:57, just before the shooting, expressing fears for her life as her husband was threatening to harm her in their home in Cholargos, Athens. Members of the emergency response team arrived at the scene within approximately one minute, where they found the woman wounded by a gunshot to her leg. They immediately provided first aid, applying a tourniquet to control the bleeding. Subsequently, the 53-year-old was transported by ambulance to a hospital for further care.

According to the woman’s testimony to police officers, her husband shot her twice, wounding her with one of the shots. She attributed the attack to intense feelings of jealousy on his part. As she reported, just seconds after he returned to the room, she heard another gunshot and assumed he had committed suicide. Police who entered the apartment shortly afterward found the 57-year-old dead, next to the weapon he allegedly used both for the attack against his wife and to end his life. During the investigation, gunpowder residue was found on the man’s hands, while no corresponding evidence was found on the woman. So far, the investigation has not revealed any previous reports of domestic violence incidents involving this particular couple. Additionally, neighbors reported that they had never observed any disturbances or arguments coming from the apartment in the past. The police investigation is ongoing, while the 53-year-old is hospitalized and her condition is stable without being in danger.
“We were discussing going out as couples,” says colleague of the 57-year-old
A colleague of the 57-year-old told Live News: “The man was a valuable instructor to us and was a serious (person). And the last time on Sunday when we spoke together, I didn’t see or notice anything that I could say the man showed something like that. I was quite surprised when I learned about this. He’s been here for quite a few years. And with his wife here and at gatherings where we met together and all of us normally. With his wife together and at various events we held here, the man was together and they went out together and we’ve socialized together outside with my wife and I haven’t noticed anything particular about the man. Retired yes, but essentially the man was volunteering because he liked to fly, meaning he would fly every Sunday, sometimes Saturday. He wasn’t someone actively, you know, working full-time. The man was simply involved because he liked this thing. And we also had him as an instructor since he was rated as a proper instructor and we had him like that. On Sunday we were even joking and in fact, we were discussing together and saying we should go out with my wife and he with his wife, because we hadn’t met for a while, maybe we could meet to go out together“.
