New information is emerging regarding the shooting incident that occurred early morning in Mikrolimano, when a 42-year-old Albanian criminal with a heavy criminal record threatened police officers during a routine check and was wounded by their gunfire. The Greek Police released photographs of the weapons and hand grenades found in his possession, while Greek Police spokesperson Konstantia Dimogllidou revealed that pending sentences against him exceed 73 years.

During investigations conducted, authorities found the man in possession of 2 fully armed pistols ready for use, as well as a revolver. It’s worth noting that the pistol he pointed at the police officer had a bullet in the chamber, as well as a magazine with 32 cartridges, as Konstantia Dimogllidou emphasized. Following is the statement from Greek Police spokesperson Konstantia Dimogllidou:
“Early morning hours today, May 23, 2026, in Mikrolimano, Piraeus, officers from the Extortion Unit of the Organized Crime Directorate, conducting checks at establishments of public health interest, spotted a man in the exterior area of a local establishment, whom they deemed suspicious and decided to proceed with his inspection. Upon seeing the officers, the individual attempted to leave.
The officers, declaring their identity, called for him to stop, however he pointed a weapon he was carrying at an officer, with obvious intent to use it. Another officer, recognizing the danger, used his personal firearm, resulting in the suspect being wounded and immobilized.
An ambulance was immediately called to the scene and transported the injured man to hospital, where he is being treated, while the competent prosecutor was also notified.
During investigations conducted, the man was found in possession of 2 fully armed pistols ready for use, as well as a revolver. It’s worth noting that the pistol he pointed at the officer had a bullet in the chamber, as well as a magazine with 32 cartridges.
Additionally, at the location where he was initially spotted, a bag containing narcotics and 6 hand grenades was found, which is why the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit was called to the scene.
During preliminary investigation, it emerged that this is a 42-year-old foreigner who has been troubling authorities since 1995 for numerous serious crimes, including murder, attempted murder, criminal organization, kidnapping and hostage-taking of a police officer, rape, theft and robbery.
Additionally, he had a red notice and European arrest warrant pending for attempted murder, robbery in association and by repetition, kidnapping, prisoner escape, resistance, illegal weapon possession and use.
He was arrested abroad in 2019 and served his sentence in that country until 2025, while subsequently, within 2026, according to current investigative data, he entered our country illegally.
It should be noted that the prison and penitentiary sentences pending against him in our country total over 73 years.
Investigation of the incident continues by the Life and Property Crimes Sub-directorate of the Organized Crime Directorate.”
The timeline
According to reporting by Spyros Darsinou for parapolitika.gr, the bloody incident occurred outside a nightclub, when a patrol of officers from the Extortion Unit came upon him. The officers got out of their vehicles and called for the Albanian man to stop for inspection in the early morning hours of Saturday (23/5). He was moving in the opposite direction, forcing officers to openly call for him to stop. Sources emphasize that the 42-year-old turned toward them and pointed his weapon. The officers at the scene took cover and one of them fired, hitting the suspect in the head area, specifically in the face near the ear.
An ambulance was immediately called and the injured man was transported alive and conscious to Attikon Hospital. He underwent surgery. According to police sources, near the man and in his possession was found a bag with 6 hand grenades, as well as three firearms. Two pistols and one revolver. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit arrived at the scene and the area on Dilaveri Coast was cordoned off.
