After the court’s guilty verdict for Irini Mourtzoukou and the defendant’s revelations about her relationship with her mother, the latter broke her silence, speaking about the infant murder case in Amaliada and the accusations her daughter has made against her. “First of all, we knew it, that she would accuse me. I expected it. I was 99% sure,” she said, emphasizing that her daughter’s stance did not surprise her at all.
“This pattern she talks about – and I don’t know if she even knows the word ‘pattern’ – is an attempt to find mitigating circumstances. But didn’t she herself say she did it consciously?” she emphasizes angrily. At the same time, she dismantled the defense line about mental illness and selective targeting of infants, referencing Irini’s sister, whom she has confessed to murdering: “What was the mitigating factor? Iliana was 18 months old, she was the oldest. Why does she say she only killed those 6 months and under?”
Irini Mourtzoukou’s mother: “She always covered for her father”
The 23-year-old’s mother also refers to Giannis Mourtzoukou, the man Irini calls her “father.”
“Are you surprised that she speaks with the best words about Giannis Mourtzoukou?” she was asked on an Open TV show, to which she replied: “She always covered for him, as she does now. He covered for her in everything. Why didn’t her father and grandmother try to save her all these years?” She also clarified that Giannis is not her biological father.
Irini’s mother also speaks about digital harassment she receives even after her daughter’s arrest:
“Last night, old profiles of Irini were activated – with girls who sent us friend requests. I constantly receive threats and they are getting harsher,” she states.
