Passenger traffic at all airports across the country recorded a significant increase during the first half of the year, rising by 5.2% compared to the same period in 2024.
Specifically, passenger traffic during January-June 2025 reached 32,350,859, compared to 30,738,558 passengers in 2024, according to statistical data from the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA).
Meanwhile, a 3.8% increase was also recorded compared to 2024 in the number of aircraft movements (arrivals and departures of domestic and international aircraft) for the first half of 2025, across the country’s 39 airports, whose air traffic control is primarily managed by the HCAA. A total of 253,851 flights were operated during January-June 2025, compared to 244,634 flights in the first half of 2024.
7.5% increase in passenger traffic at 24 HCAA-managed airports
It should be noted that passenger traffic at the 24 airports managed by the HCAA (Heraklion, Kalamata, Alexandroupoli, Lemnos, Astypalaia, Ioannina, Chios, Kozani, Kastoria, Karpathos, Kythira, Milos, Skyros, Nea Anchialos, Paros, Syros, Araxos, Naxos, Kalymnos, Ikaria, Kastelorizo, Kasos, Leros, Sitia) showed a 7.5% increase in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.
Specifically, according to statistical data, the total number of passengers (arrivals and departures of international and domestic passengers) from January-June 2025 reached 4,489,469 passengers, compared to 4,176,486 passengers in 2024.
June 2025: Nearly 1.4 million passengers at Heraklion “Nikos Kazantzakis” airport
It is emphasized that the state-owned Heraklion Crete airport served 1,396,137 passengers in June this year, representing a 6% increase compared to the same month last year. Meanwhile, the most significant percentage increases in passenger traffic at HCAA-managed airports in June 2025, compared to 2024, were recorded at Syros airport +112.8% (3,254 passengers in 2025 – 1,529 passengers in 2024), at Nea Anchialos airport +51% (6,362 passengers in 2025 – 4,213 passengers in 2024), and at Naxos airport +36.9% (38,676 passengers in 2025 – 28,246 passengers in 2024).
