A serious incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday (06/05) in western Athens, featuring a truly cinematic police chase from Kolonos and Athinas Avenue to the Rentis area, where the fleeing driver lost control of his vehicle, resulting in his immobilization and arrest. The incident took place around 05:00 in the early morning hours, when a special police unit spotted a suspicious vehicle moving at the intersection of Athinas Avenue and Chrimatistirio in Kolonos. According to police sources, officers signaled for a traffic stop, but the driver hit the gas and attempted to escape.
The “cinematic” chase to Rentis
While driving on Athinas Avenue at the height of Karaiskaki in Haidari, the driver made a sharp maneuver and U-turn, even colliding with a police patrol vehicle without causing damage that would immobilize either vehicle.
He accelerated again and then headed toward the Rentis area. There, at the intersection of Legaki and Mystra streets, the driver lost control, the car veered off course and crashed into railings where it was immobilized.
The driver was injured and transferred to Tzaneio Hospital, and was arrested by authorities for resisting arrest, dangerous driving, hit-and-run behavior, and violation of laws regarding special obligations to police officers.
