A 17-year-old special education student (a minor on the autism spectrum) experienced a nightmare in Nea Filadelfeia, when he suffered a brutal beating from a 25-year-old man who didn’t hesitate to punch him and send him to the hospital with a fractured upper jaw. All this happened because of an accidental push in a crowded area.
Nea Filadelfeia: Timeline of the violent attack on the 17-year-old special education student
The shocking incident occurred early Saturday evening, May 2nd, in Nea Filadelfeia during a local festival. At that moment, a popular singer’s concert was taking place in the town’s central square, creating crowded conditions. The 17-year-old had gone there with his two sisters, aged 20 and 23, when according to reports, one of the girls accidentally pushed the 25-year-old’s 20-year-old girlfriend. She reacted badly, first by cursing and then by hitting the girl, causing the 17-year-old to become frightened and start shouting due to his condition. That’s when the 25-year-old turned toward them, initially hit one of the girls and then threw at least two punches to the minor student’s face.
Chaos ensued as the couple fled the scene, cursing and making threats. The Greek Police were notified and officers from the Nea Filadelfeia-Chalkidona department took charge of locating the 25-year-old and his girlfriend. Using the limited available evidence, they managed to find them on Sunday afternoon, May 3rd, and arrest them, with the couple admitting to their actions during preliminary questioning.
Criminal charges were filed against him for aggravated assault against a defenseless person as well as for harboring, and they were brought before the Athens First Instance Prosecutor’s Office. What’s particularly shocking is that the 25-year-old appears to be trained in martial arts, which was evident from his punches.
