Electronic evaluation of the Greek National Health System (NHS) by patients themselves has begun, as announced by the Ministry of Health. The process involves patients discharged from 127 public hospitals across the country and aims to collect data on healthcare service quality. Within five days of discharge, patients will receive a text message with a link through which they will be asked to answer 35 targeted questions about their hospitalization.

The process applies to adults over 18 years old, is anonymous, and requires login through Taxisnet codes.
Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis called on citizens to actively participate, emphasizing that this initiative will enhance transparency, help upgrade services, and provide valuable information about the healthcare system’s operation. “We will be able to collect real data from all 127 NHS hospitals in a short period of time, from the users themselves, and then generate a satisfaction or dissatisfaction score from our patients for the health services provided by each hospital department, publish this information and create healthy competition between hospitals,” he stated.
NHS evaluation: What the questions include
The questionnaire will be available for up to 7 days after discharge, and completion is expected to take no more than 3 minutes.
An essential requirement is that patients must be registered in the digital prescription system and have been hospitalized for at least one day. Upon accessing the link, the social security number (AMKA) will be required. However, if it’s found that it doesn’t correspond to a hospitalized patient, access to the questionnaire will not be possible.
The collected data will not include personal details or information that could reveal the patient’s identity. The questions patients will be asked to answer mainly concern staff adequacy, waiting times, service quality, cleanliness, and food services.
For those with scheduled admissions, information about waiting time until admission will be requested. If admission was through the Emergency Department, an assessment of waiting time from arrival to admission will be requested.
The eight evaluation axes included in the questionnaire
- Accessibility
- Organization and coordination of care
- Quality of care and interaction with staff
- Support and participation in decision-making
- Cleanliness, hygiene and food services
- Support and information during hospital discharge
- Knowledge of patient rights offices in hospitals and their effectiveness
