Residents of a neighboring apartment building describe in dramatic terms the events that unfolded in the early hours of Saturday 18/04 in Kolonos, when a deadly fire broke out in an apartment on Argous Street, with a tragic toll of two deaths.

Kolonos: Timeline of the tragedy
The tragedy unfolded under unclear circumstances, while information about the victims remains confused, as initially there was talk of two siblings – a man and a woman – while other witnesses reported it was a couple. According to Fire Service data, the apartment where the man lived had been provided by a relative.
Fifteen firefighters with four vehicles and a special ladder truck operated at the scene, while neighboring apartments in the three-story building were also evacuated. The damage is extensive, with the fire spreading rapidly. Reports indicate that the woman, about 50 years old, lost her life likely from smoke inhalation, while two ambulances rushed to the scene immediately.
According to witness testimonies, the fire may have started from a gas leak in one apartment, before spreading to an adjacent one, with firefighters managing to enter the premises about an hour later for the extinguishing and search operation.
