Time for testimony for Eirini Mourtzoukou
Specifically, Eirini Mourtzoukou is charged with serial murder with intent both completed and attempted, continuously and non-continuously. The charges relate to the killing of her two own infants at different time periods, another infant, and the attempted murder of an adult female friend. Besides the murders of the three infants, Mourtzoukou has confessed to police about killing her sister when she was an infant, though this charge has been statute-barred because she was a minor at the time.
The 25-year-old categorically denies killing little Panagiotakis, the baby of her friend Popi, which is the chronologically last infant who lost his life in August 2024.
Meanwhile, as he emphasized in statements last Wednesday outside the Patras courthouse, the defense attorney for Eirini Mourtzoukou, Nikos Alexandris, after the extension requested and granted by the investigating magistrate, stated that “within the framework of the investigation we will clarify all the circumstances under which she was led to the acts she confessed to, and from there the responsibilities of others and the details of her actions will become apparent.”
Strict police security measures during Eirini Mourtzoukou’s transfer
Police have implemented strict security measures outside the Patras courthouse to prevent incidents during Eirini Mourtzoukou’s transfer. This is because last Wednesday, gathered citizens outside the Patras courts condemned the 25-year-old, both during her entrance to the courthouse and her departure from it.
After completion of the 25-year-old’s testimony, the investigating magistrate and prosecutor are expected to confer to decide whether Eirini Mourtzoukou will be held in provisional detention or not.
Handwritten notes submitted
Eirini Mourtzoukou, according to ERT, had a meeting with her attorney Mr. Alexandris, to whom she delivered handwritten notes. According to sources, these notes may be utilized during her testimony and may contain details about the children’s deaths.
Additionally, it’s not ruled out that other persons may be implicated in the homicide cases.
It’s recalled that in recent statements, the defendant’s attorney had said: “Mourtzoukou will assume the share of responsibility that belongs to her,” while emphasizing that “she is not the only one responsible for this entire tragic event of children’s deaths.”
