A serious incident is unfolding in Ampelokipoi since this morning, as an involuntary hospitalization order nearly led to tragedy. A police officer was injured when struck by an axe and is fortunately being treated out of danger at 401 Military Hospital.

It all began around 9:30 AM on Thursday morning, when officers from the Ampelokipoi Police Station approached a house on Rostoviou Street. Their purpose was to execute an involuntary hospitalization order for a 35-year-old man who reportedly suffers from psychological problems.
The police officers arrived at the location, however the 35-year-old resisted. According to sources, using an axe he fortunately only lightly injured one police officer. He then fled, triggering an alert among first response forces who are currently searching for the perpetrator.
